PARIS, France, October 4, 2022 –
Cray Valley announces the extension of ISCC PLUS certification on the Carling Saint-Avold platform in France, enabling the production and commercialization of Certified Renewable Resins within this specialty business unit.
The Carling Saint-Avold petrochemical platform is producing specialty resins as well as value- added polymers primarily intended for the automotive industry and is also TotalEnergies’ main polystyrene production site in Europe.
To accelerate in the circular economy, the platform is developing the use of feedstocks obtained through the processing of biobased or advanced recycling materials. These certified sustainable entrants allow to produce polymers with identical properties to virgin polymers and a significant reduced environmental impact.
ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification), a globally applicable certification system, ensures traceability and secures the custody through mass balance approach along the value chain, from feedstock to the final product.
Stéphanie Bouzet, Vice-President Cray Valley mentioned: “We are very proud to continue to develop the resins business in Carling. Indeed, through ISCC PLUS, our product portfolio made in Carling and commercialized under specialty resins brands such as Ricon®, Krasol® and Cleartack® are now available as Certified Renewable Resins. This will accelerate our automotive and adhesives customers transition towards more environmentally responsible products.”
“This certification will allow us to meet the market’s growing demand for more low-carbon solutions. It reaffirms the commitment of the Carling platform to contribute to TotalEnergies’ ambition of producing 30% circular polymers by 2030,” said Corinne Loigerot, Director of Carling Saint-Avold Platform.

The TotalEnergies Carling – Saint-Avold platform has nearly 380 employees and produces components used in manufacturing everyday materials. This involves polymers and resins that our customers use to manufacture daily objects, particularly food packaging, electronics, medical materials and products for the automotive industry. The site has five production units (polyethylene, polystyrene, polypropylene compound units and two specialty resin units). It is home to the European management of Cray Valley, a TotalEnergies’ subsidiary that supervises the resin production activity, which includes supply chain organization, a European research and development center, and production units. As the main site in Europe for polystyrene production for TotalEnergies, the facility contributes to developing the knowledge and techniques relating to the production of recycled polystyrene.
TotalEnergies is a global multi-energy company that produces and markets energies: oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity. Our more than 100,000 employees are committed to energy that is ever more affordable, cleaner, more reliable and accessible to as many people as possible.
