PARIS, France, June 20, 2023 –
As a leader in manufacturing liquid polybutadienes and hydrocarbon specialty chemicals for the rubber industry, Cray Valley announces its first commercialization of certified renewable resins for the tire industry using ISCC PLUS mass balance approach, which are manufactured at its Carling Saint-Avold platform in France.
Known under commercial brands such as Ricon®, Krasol® and Cleartack®, Cray Valley resins are established as performance-enhancing additives for tire applications. Some of these products are largely used in tire tread applications for their improved traction and rolling-resistance balance and for their excellent performance during winter or wet conditions.
To accelerate the circular economy and benefit from its integration with TotalEnergies’ Carling Saint-Avold platform, Cray Valley commercializes an extensive product range using certified renewable feedstocks. The sustainable raw materials originated from the processing of biobased or advanced recycling feedstocks. These entrants permit Cray Valley to manufacture identical properties of resins with a significantly reduced environmental impact.
Thanks to the ISCC PLUS mass balance concept, Cray Valley is able to offer sustainable solutions at a large industrial scale as a drop-in solution that requires no re-homologation at tire manufacturers.
Stephanie Bouzet, Vice-President Cray Valley, mentioned: “This first commercialization is a key milestone towards sustainability and reflects our commitment to accelerate, together with our tire and automotive customers, the transition towards more environmentally responsible products.”
Access to sustainable feedstocks on a global scale is key. Cray Valley is expanding ISCC PLUS certification to all its production sites while combining R&D developments to maximize the integration of bio-based feedstocks and certified renewable feedstocks.
“As a fully integrated supplier, we are accelerating our solutions for our customers. By combining ISCC PLUS certifications, bio-based solutions, and more sustainable process developments, we enlarge our global offering regarding sustainability and performance of products. We expect that the tire industry will increasingly integrate renewable sourcing, and we have the capability and commitment to accompany them,” concluded Gabriela Quevedo Silvetti, Global Marketing & Sustainability Manager.
TotalEnergies’ Cray Valley affiliate is a global supplier of specialty chemical additives, hydrocarbon specialty chemicals, and liquid or solid tackifying resins used to make adhesives, rubbers, polymers, coatings and other materials.
